The NEW Setting Controller Fortnite Players NEED To Try! (Controller Fortnite – PS4 + Xbox)

Hey what is going on guys, in this video today
we’re gonna be talking about a really interesting new sensitivity setting, that a lot of people
have had very positive results with, and I’ve actually gotten a few different requests to
make a video discussing it. What I’m referring to here, is an option in the new advanced
sensitivity section called “look input curve.” This setting has 2 options, exponential and
linear, and the game provides a quick little description of what these 2 options do if
you scroll over it. It says “Defines how input from the controller’s look stick is processed.
Linear uses the raw stick input. Exponential causes smaller stick movement to have less
of an effect, allowing for more precision.” Probably not the most easy to understand summary
in the world, but don’t worry because throughout this video I’ll make sure that you guys understand
it. So whenever you switch to the new sensitivity settings, look input curve will always defaulty
be set to exponential. And the reason why, is because Fortnite has always had an exponential
input curve while aiming, and before update 10.40, there was absolutely nothing you could
do to change that. But now a lot of controller players are starting to switch their look
input curve from exponential to linear, and as I mentioned, I’ve seen a pretty overwhelming
amount of positive reviews. So, without further ado, let’s get right into it. Alright so the first thing that I wanna do
in this video is make sure you guys understand how a linear input curve is different from
an exponential input curve, and how that effects aiming in Fortnite. And the best way to do
that, is to actually show you guys 2 different graphs. Now don’t worry, this isn’t gonna
be like a day in algebra class or something, the numbers on the graphs aren’t important,
and they’re actually super simple to understand. The first graph here is basically how the
exponential input curve works for aiming in Fortnite. As you can see, when you initially
start moving your right thumbstick, your sensitivity is going to be pretty low. And as you continue
to move it, it’ll stay pretty low for a while, but then as you get towards the end it will
increase very quickly. With a a linear curve on the other hand, what you see is a much
more smooth sensitivity increase over time. You don’t see any kind of dramatic jump-up
in sensitivity like you did towards the end with the exponential curve. Now just so we’re
clear, those graphs are more of general example of what linear vs. exponential means, and
not exactly what it’s like in-game. The only people who know that, are literally the Fortnite
developers. So now I’ll show you guys a clip that I think does a somewhat decent job of
comparing linear vs. exponential in-game. It’s something that’s pretty difficult to
show just doing it by hand, and I’m sure there’s some human error in here, but you should hopefully
be able to see that there’s a noticeable difference just based off this clip. So as you hopefully
were able to tell there, it really is similar to those 2 graphs earlier. Linear is more
of a smooth upward increase in sensitivity as you move the right stick, well exponential
is considerably slower at first, and then ramps up very quickly towards the end. So
what does that all mean in regards to aiming, editing, building, and everything else in
Fortnite? Well the first thing that I want mention right off the bat, is that linear
is definitely going to make your sensitivity feel much faster. The first time I ever tried
linear, I didn’t really think about that, and let’s just say it didn’t go very well.
But that’s also going to depend on other factors like how low your look dampening time is,
how low your deadzone values are, or how high your horizontal and vertical boosts are. Me
personally, with linear I would recommend either no or very minimal horizontal and vertical
boosts, and I would keep your look dampening time very low as well. Because the higher
those values are, the more it will feel like you’re using an exponential aiming curve,
which kinda defeats the whole purpose of linear. So now that I’ve made that clear, the first
main positive of linear compared to exponential, is how much smoother flick motions feel. It’s
a fairly simple concept, since your sensitivity increases in a more smooth way, any kind of
quick flick is going to feel easier to control. And I think a lot of people would be surprised
how frequently you make quick flicks in Fortnite. The first thing people always think of when
you mention that, are shotgun flick shots. And sure, those definitely are important,
and in theory it will be considerably easier to hit those shots on linear compared to exponential,
but quick flicks are also super common when editing and building as well. Certain advanced
building and editing techniques, such as some crazy high ground retakes, or double/triple
edits are really hard to do on exponential, because no matter how high you put your building/editing
sensitivity, it’s still going to be super slow at the very beginning of your stick movement.
But with linear, that’s going to be less of a problem, even if you do have to drop your
sensitivity down a bit. And it seems like everybody I’ve talked to that plays on linear
specifically mentions editing, as a skill that just feels much smoother compared to
how it does on exponential. Also, you’d be surprised by how many swingy/flicky movements
you make in point point blank range fights, even with fully-auto weapons like the SMGs
in Fortnite. It’s a common opinion that close range aim fights are kinda difficult with
the new aim assist and sensitivity settings, but I’ve seen a lot of people say that switching
from linear to exponential has helped them with that. Now obviously linear isn’t perfect,
and it also has some negatives compared to exponential. The main one, is that small and
very precise movements are likely going to be a little more difficult to make, since
your sensitivity speeds up a lot faster at first compared to how it normally does on
exponential. This is probably most important when it comes to medium/long range AR aim.
Again, you can compensate for that a bit by just lowering your sensitivity, or even increasing
your dead zones, but that probably won’t totally solve it. Also, I’ve seen some people complain
that linear input curve sometimes results in them accidentally making some unwanted
movements, where they barely move the stick at all, but since it’s much more responsive
at the beginning than exponential, their crosshair actually moves a considerable amount in-game.
So my overall opinion on the linear input curve, is that it’s definitely at least worth
a try. Look, I’m sure there are a lot of people watching this that will try it out for a few
games or even a few days, and then eventually switch back to either legacy aim assist, or
an exponential input curve. But at the same time, there will also be people who switch
to linear, and once they eventually get used to it, see significant improvements in certain
aspects of their game. I mean season 11 is still a few days away at the time I’m making
this video, and everybody is basically just waiting for that, and trying to find any way
to have fun or make the game interesting right now. So even if you absolutely love your current
settings and doubt you’d switch away from them, what do you really have to lose by giving
this a try? And earlier I talked about how I’ve seen a lot of positive comments from
players who tried linear input curve, and I just wanna read one quick example from a
pretty popular post from the fortnite competitive reddit titled “linear is meta”. The user who
made the post said “Honestly Ive never felt this confident in my controller aim.
I made the change earlier today just to try it out and I couldnt believe how good linear
is. I saw other posts saying how changing was pointless and others saying give it a
go so I wasnt sure – but trust me Ill never regret changing. Recently Id thought
my aim was getting better and if you feel this way too I guarantee you should give Linear
a go. Since its based on raw input it really rewards good aim!” And some replies I saw
include: “My aim has never felt so consistent, especially with the tracking buff SMGs are
lasers” and “Yeah my flicks are wayyy more consistent on linear” So, I hope you guys enjoy this video and if
you watched the entire thing be sure to let me know with a comment down in the comment
section below. Let me know if you guys plan to give the linear input curve setting a try,
or if you have any experience with it, let me know your what you think. Be sure to leave
a like, leave a comment, subscribe, turn on post notifications, do whatever the heck you
want, and I, will catch you guys next time!

Anybody else feel like there is alot less aim assist for hipfire overall. But damn near none on legacy controls?

Jordan Alker · October 9, 2019 at 4:47 am

This is actually really important due to the fact that I had assumed this new boost setting was under a "linear" sensitivity, so important for my gameplay. Also, I don't remember whether you put your Build Boost On or Off but the better setting is off, to negate instant boost factor.

Im iffy on trying it due to being more of a “sniper” type player mid/long range but will definitely give this a try and who knows, maybe it will make me a close range player.

Gronky, I am hoping that you will be able to give me an idea as to how to resolve a technical issue I am experiencing in the fortnite settings menu.

I recently decided to give mouse and keyboard to try. I went out and spent a few hundred dollars on some decent equipment, came home and played with it for a few weeks, ultimately deciding that controller is definitely my preference.

My problem is that in the legacy settings menu, I am unable to adjust all wireless controller sensitivities. They are all grayed out now, however the mouse sensitivity options are blue lit. This is now with my settings look like with or without the mouse and keyboard plugged in.

I did uninstall/reinstall Fortnite and that did not resolve the issue. I also factory reset my PlayStation erasing everything on the hard drive, which also has not resolved the issue.

I’ve sent epic games and email just now explaining The issues I’m having, unfortunately I have a feeling that they are going to try and push me away and refer me to Sony.

Any information provided by you, or anyone in the comment section is much appreciated. Thank you

Yeah just switched to linear to try it out and it feels way better, my flick shots are far more accurate than on exponential, exponential is a bit to slow for flick shots.

I Edited The FUNNIEST Peppa Pig Episode XD

Rhys Craven · October 9, 2019 at 1:15 pm

As someone who doesn't play claw and does not have paddles i do a lot of going back and forth between A and the right stick really fast. I have been using it since it came out and i have had a lot of success because i can make the quick movements before having to take my thumb off of right stick agian. It takes some getting used to and finding the right settings for it but I would say at least try it

Gtk_ Cash · October 9, 2019 at 1:27 pm

I been using linear ever since the new patch about the new settings came out and my edits are so much smoother my shotgun aim is still if not better now my builds are a lil better and i used to try and counter the exponetial curve before these new settings by playing on a .915 sense on x and y but now i feel comfortable changing that and now i play on a 86% x and y sure the ar aim from distance is tough but try and lower your sense a lil and itll eventually smooth out. its fine if you such for the first few days i did to just hop into edit and aim courses and give it a go. My flicks for edits are insane and my flicks for shotgun shots are getting significantly better i think linear is probably what every shooter game should go by bc thats what the pc guys get. I think everyone should give this a good try. check out my insta and twitch plz https://www.twitch.tv/ruby_cash and my insta is gtk_cash plz check it out

Ryan Ruiz · October 9, 2019 at 1:42 pm

So basically if you have a high sensitivity with the new aim assist and you turn Linear on. You would be playing on Old Settings but with better aim assist

Soomii · October 9, 2019 at 1:44 pm

If it takes more than a day to make these videos's you have terrible timing

Jacob VanMeter · October 9, 2019 at 1:49 pm

I’ve found that my friends who didn’t know how to use aim assist L2 spam before this update have really taken well to the new aim assist.

Soomii · October 9, 2019 at 1:55 pm

I tried it and now my aim is just consistently hot garbage and no longer literally so bad i can be spraying at someone at medium ranger for a minute straight and miss literally every single one of my shots

Headahhlildude · October 9, 2019 at 6:58 pm

Linear 4L figured out the perfect settings and all that for linear now i was capped as a controller pc player on exp now on linear I can tunnel way faster everything pc players did easier now I can do easier just take some time in creative and find the right boost and stuff M16 made a good video how to find your starting base look and horizontal sens once you find that the. Goto the boost and get a feel for the boost

I am using Legacy aim assist, my problem with aim is the initial lock on, I can track from there pretty easily.

Mike Barrett · October 9, 2019 at 8:56 pm

Trying it now since they nerfed our aim assist…

Exsponention makes ur editing stiff and lenie make it more smooth and makes it batter to flick shot

I changed the first day it was added and I cant change back to exponential

XotiK Files · October 9, 2019 at 10:54 pm

Everyone knows about this lmao linear is OP but non consistent cause if you are like me who's faat paced player you move the joystick a little much

Deeklan Blunden · October 9, 2019 at 11:11 pm

You really have to mess around with your settings to allign it all, but it does instantly feel smoother. It would be better if we had a seperate section to more accurately adjust building and editing. I play fairly low sense, and like the boosts with linear actually..
A video with different types of settings would be good. A lot of work and explanation needed though.. GV

xKyloz · October 9, 2019 at 11:51 pm

I put it on Linear when I first setup my settings and I see nothing wrong with it I’m used to it and it feels good for my aim. I played two solos and won both with 12 and 16 kills

iR0BziLLa · October 10, 2019 at 12:56 am

Nahhh if you aren't a ceacked ass player just rock like 35% horizontal and vertical and linear feels great running around. Feels great editing and building

QB Maree · October 10, 2019 at 1:05 am

Linear ain't it chief

Nick S · October 10, 2019 at 3:42 am

Day one with linear setting, all boosts off, my shotgun and short range accuracy and flicks are INSANE. in one game I hit more pump heads hots than I normally do in a week! I normally have way above average AR accuracy in the mid to long range however I find that my ability to hit those shots is now terrible. I use a bit of a longer stick and a kontrol freak on my right stick so I think I'll get used to it easier. I noticed no difference in building but my editing is much more consistent. The biggest issue I'm having is that in order to have a sena high enough to spin around quickly, it's way too fast for me to control. I'm going to give it a week and see how it goes!
