MyToolbox Wins 2019 New Venture Competition Student Business Track

[MUSIC PLAYING] Last summer, as part of
testing for MyToolbox, I spent the summer in New York
City staffing construction workers in various job sites. I want to tell you about the
first worker that I staffed. His name is Roberto. Roberto went to post-secondary
school here in Massachusetts. He’s licensed, he’s
certified, he’s trained. And he’s been working
for the last three years as an electrician
in New York City. He makes a little over $30,000 a
year, and he owns a smartphone. Now when Roberto is
looking for work, he’s still limited to
offline, broken methods in order to find his job. And because he’s finding work
offline, when he gets paid, it’s typically done
by printed checks– which means he then
has to go and pay additional fees and expenses,
just to get his paycheck. And it turns out,
in the US, there are over 9 million Robertos
in construction alone. And across skilled trades,
there are 19 million of them. So we are building MyToolbox– a labor staffing
and payroll platform for skilled trade
workers in the US. So now they can leverage
their smartphone to be able to find work
and get paid directly. Please join us as we create
a better future of work for skilled-trade workers. Thank you.
