Inside the Fierce Competition of Professional Foosball

(dramatic music) – When I tell people I’m
a pro-foosball player there’s always a look
of like astonishment. I get laughter sometimes too, what, I didn’t know there was
tournaments for that, foosball? Yeah that’s the one
that’s, that’s what I do. (dramatic music) Foosball’s not just a, a barroom game. It’s a competitive sport that’s played at a professional level by
people all around the world. It’s like a hand-to-hand combat, you’re, you’re standing this close you know, you’re standing three feet
away from your opponent, and it’s almost like you’re in a fight, you’re battling against each other. I come from a, a long
line of foosball players. I got into foosball because of my dad. He played in the, the golden era, the 1970s when there was
a million dollar tour. I’ve been playing for 20 years now. So for the first 10 to
12 years of my career I would practice on a table at home. It would be complete repetition. Over and over and over. Every player in here can
execute a shot or a pass. But it’s a matter of
constructing a solid game plan. It’s like a, a game of
chess on the mental side. It, it could be pretty taxing. Physically by the end of the weekend you, you’re sore, your hands are sore, your feet are sore so you
have to be in decent shape. I always got a, a sweat band on my arm just in case I get into a, a heated match I gotta, you know, wipe my brow, so. I go to the World Cup, which is basically our version of the Olympics,
and I compete on Team USA. I do believe it should be in the Olympics. Our only problem is the fact that there’s not a standardized foosball table. And I’ll do whatever it takes to, for the sport to reach that next level. Bottom line is it makes me happy that this is what I do
and, yeah I love it.

buck rowley · August 13, 2016 at 6:44 am

wait I played (crappy but I played ) in the 70's you either play on that table and Only that table or I wont/cant play …I think I may not have played since then and  don't know what the differences are between todays table and the origin table

Checkmate1138 · August 26, 2016 at 11:39 pm

Well, I suppose if they have tournaments for poker, chess, and StarCraft, then I can understand the appeal for this.

Feline-gamer Flocket · August 28, 2016 at 12:54 am

Lmao he called foosball a sport XD

Lord Darkside · September 14, 2016 at 6:43 pm

I am rally good at this game, i used to play with the players made out of wood instead of plastic..also the whole table was made out of wood with no silicon grips for the hands, i still got a bone on my right wrist looking funny because of too much foosball games in a row, its so sad to know that in my country that game is extinct today but i am so glad to see that people out there still play the game and making it better…keep the dream real dudes!!

I learned to play in Europe while playing on glass tables…talk about a fast game…..At 60 years old I sometimes freak out some young guns when they think they are the shits if I come across someone playing in a bar., If I wasn't running a business and traveling around the country nostalgia drag racing I would love to play again in competition. Is there a senior class?I miss the sound of the ball hitting the back of the goal on a perfectly slammed ace.

Your 7 times better than me

EarthSurferUSA · June 8, 2017 at 7:05 am

If your father played pro in the 70's, he might remember a guy who I hear was ranked #7 in the world from the USA named Bob "the Bionic Pull" Kurten. I am just a rural guy who met him after I moved to Grand Rapids, MI. in the early 90's, and played against him and his buddies at a dive on 28th street.

Pssst,— I could beat him if my 5-guy passing was as good as his was. Can't make the shot if you can't get the ball.

crockingmadness · April 9, 2018 at 7:17 am

foosball played properly is extremely technical and competitive.. you actually do need alot of skill and control to the many people who seem very uninformed here..

Dan Mor · April 21, 2018 at 1:18 am

Orange County "The Goat tavern" Costa Mesa.
Best Foosball players in the world!!!

Tim Bowman · June 24, 2018 at 1:30 am

Did I just see someone feed the ball through the hole?

>Professional

Rj Aquaponics · June 29, 2018 at 5:25 pm

It's a shame these foosball manufacturers are only interested in selling tables and not promoting the sport!   The payout for big tournaments should be 10x the current rate and then foosball would regain the traction it once had where big money rewards were possible.

_ Redy · August 11, 2018 at 9:34 pm
