How to play Quidditch and why we should

Come on, come on go yourself! Head on, right on target! Like that! Yeah man! So today i’m gonna go play some Quidditch with the Quidditch team Aarhus Owls and i’m not really sure what to expect It’s seems quite fun, but also difficult and different I’m gonna meet up with my friend Johanne and she is gonna introduce me to the team and from there on, we’re just gonna join them for a day and see how it goes. Looking quite forward to it So let’s get there! So Johanne now we are recording. Yes yes yes So i found Johanne And now we are gonna go and find the equipment. Yep. I had a bit trouble locating them, but here they are. Here they are Hey guys, Jesper is here Hi Maija, Jesper, Vinnie hi Jesper And here we have equipment That’s like the first thing to do. Get the equiment and then setup and that’s what you do like every time right? Yeah. Go here. Collect the stuff together and then carry it Cool. Let’s get the equipment then. What do you wanna carry? These are not to hard to carry And then we’re just gonna set up? Yes Gradually as people get done and ready to play The we start to put the pitch together So we arrived at the Quidditch field and we’re gonna put up the equipment and from there on yearh just get this action going Thanks for coming today Even in shitty weather The plan for today is that we have to make some warmups and then we have to make some exercises Then we have to play a lot of games in the end because we are so many people. Yeah! Start! Sweet lte’s do it! So let me give you a quick introduction to the game The objective of the game is to score more points than the opposing team. At each end stands 3 hoops where the points are scored Each team has three chasers with white headbands two beaters with black headbands one keeper with a green headband and one seeker with a yellow headband Everyone playing must have a broom between their legs or else they aren’t active. The chasers mission is to get the Quaffle into the rings to score points. You can shoot from any direction and each hoop equals 10 points You are aloud to throw it, pass it or kick it in any direction The keeper is also aloud to score, but they usually focus on projection their own teams hoops. The beaters job is to hit opposing players with a bludger there are 3 bludgers in play at all times. Only beaters may touch them though. When a player is hit with a bludger. they must drop their ball if they are carrying one, dismount their broom, run back to their own hoops and touch them before they will be able to play again. At 17th minute a neutral player known as the Snitch Runner enters the field They are carrying the snitch which is a ball in a sock attached to the runners back. They have to prevent the teams seekers to get the snitch At the 18th minute each team introduce their seekers to the game and their job is to catch the snitch. The snitch is worth 30 points and the game ends when it is caught The team with most points when the snitch is caught wins the game And that’s the basics So here is the deal Quidditch is really hard and as you can see it’s a lot of tackling, lot of force and Well. It’s really fun, it’s really difficult with the broom between your legs Like. Rugby go home But yeah. It’s really fun. In a little while, i think we are gonna play a match so we can try to put it all together So we can watch and try to see if it works in practice. Now they know what is gonna happen Then they should be able to use it It makes sence. It’s really hard. Yes! It’s a very physical sport You also play with tackling and so on So you have to be a little robustly build and endure some hits You get hurt once in a while Conctact sport is the best It’s cool, it’s really cool. Yes yes. Do i look pretty now? Alright. So it’s time to play the game I became a chaser and yearh it’s it’s gonna be exciting. What do you think guys? It’s gonna be good. You are gonna get down! You are gonna get tackled! It’s gonna be crazy I’m a bit nervous Just give it your everything and it’s gonna be alright. Well. Then match is about to start, so get on the pitch. Get your broom, get on the pitch. Let’s do this. Yellow team ready? Yeah! Black team ready? Yeah! Brooms down Ready Brooms up! Like that! 1-0 to black team Good Johanne! Go, go, go! Jesper, Jesper, Jesper, Jesper! Ah intense! Brooms down, brooms down! We can meet them extremely high on the field When we meet them high what happens? The make poor passes. Yes. So hit them high. They lost the ball twice over to the left where we get a free contra We should just keep using that Ready Brooms up! Go, go, go! Come on, come on go yourself! Head on, right on target! Like that! Yeah man! Like that! Time is up. Game over! Match is over. I’m not sure who won. I scored I scored a simple goal and assisted one I’m proud om myself haha So Yeah you’ll see Yes thanks! Well played So basically Quidditch is a sport. And a pretty hardcore one to be honest. And even though it’s not a Harry Potter fan base it does seem like the players have a special sense of community. The different roles in the sport makes it a sport where all types of people can participate. And after the match you even cheer the opposing team for their contribution. Hip hip hurray! Hip hip hurray! Three cheers for yellow team Hip hip hurray! That combined with the fact that it’s not aloud to be more than 4 of the same gender playing pr team shows that even though it’s a competition this sport is all about uniting people of all types and shapes. Quidditch is definitely still a very different sport to play, and with that there are prejudice combined with it. But it seems to me that this, combined with the sports format might be why the players has such a strong solidary mindset Something i really admire. I’m joining you here Yeah!! Wuuhu Come closer to the middle. You have to join! It’s cool! Do you have something you say? Yell? We have a battle cry You wanna try that? Yes Owls for one! One for owls!
