Collar X Elbow : The Wrestling Brand
Collar and elbow bouts usually began as a
contest of balance. The opening position or stance featured the
hand and arm positioning which gave the wrestling style it’s name. Contestants faced one another. Each placing one hand on his adversaries shoulder
and gripping his adversaries forearm with his other hand. This establishes the opening box. Prevents bull like rushes or throat grabs. Minimizes disadvantages in height or arm’s
reach and prevents deft footwork. Here the champion squares off with the challenger. Each holds the stance until his opponent forces
or permits him to break.
