Ask An Athlete, Wrestling

[music] Hello! I’m a high school wrestler, and my coach wants me to count weight, but I don’t think I can lose weight unless I stop eating or start purging. I don’t want to be see as weak or not willing to do what the coach asks. What should I do? You should definitely not stop eating and start purging. Those would be very dangerous behaviors, risk behaviors. You don’t want to do that. I think the best thing that you can do is get information. Get information, you know, on appropriate eating or eating disorders, or talk to a healthcare professional, and help to educate your coach. Help to educate your coach about, you know, bodies and athletes and what makes us strong and what is a risk behavior. [music]
